2011 Skelly's/Optimist Club Duck Race

Flocks of ducks will be invading Skelly's Farm Market this fall for the second annual Optimist Farm Duck Race. Skelly's has partnered with the Janesville Optimist clubs to help raise money for improvements to Optimist Park in Janesville.

Who: Skelly's Farm Market and the three Janesville Optimist Clubs (Janesville Breakfast, Janesville Noon, and Janesville Wednesday)

What: A plastic duck race on the creek that runs through Skelly's Farm Market in Janesville. Community members can buy a race ticket ($3 each or 2/$5). If your duck is the fastest duck from the starting line to the finish, you could win a prize.

When: Saturday, October 2, 2011 at 3:30 pm

Where: Skelly's Farm Market

Why: To help the Optimist Clubs raise money to build a pavilion at Optimist Park. Oh, and because it is a lot of fun to see hundreds, if not thousands of ducks (don't worry, they are plastic, not real) racing down a creek toward the finish line. Even if you do not buy an entry, come out and watch the fun.

How it works: Purchase a ticket from any Optimist Club member or a supporting business. On race day, your duck(s) will be tossed into the creek to race against the other racing ducks. If your ducky is fast, you could win one of the prizes for first place, although you might want to share the winnings with your champion. Or, your duck could be the lame duck and come in last place which will also win a prize. Please note: you do not actually own your duck; you are just renting. In fact, you will probably never touch your duck. You donation is simply your entry selecting that your duck will be fastest.

To purchase tickets: Tickets are available from any Janesville Optimist Club member. Tickets may also be purchased at area businesses including Skelly's Farm Market (Hayner Road location only). Tickets will also be available on race day while the duck supply lasts or until 3 pm.

Prizes (2011 prizes still pending):

• Lucky Duck 1st- $300.00 cash

• 2nd- One night stay at an area hotel- Family Spaghetti Feast from the Italian House. (approximate value $175)

• 3rd- Buffet for 4 at Mac's Pizza, 4 passes to 2012 Spotlight on Kids season shows, 2 pumpkins from Skelly's valued up to $10.00 each (value $75.00)

• Lame Duck (Last place)- Skelly fun pack including: 6 pack of corn maze/wagon ride tickets, 6 tickets to Skelly's "Lost in the Dark" nighttime maze, 1 dozen Skelly donuts, and 4 pumpkins valued up to $10 each. (approximate value $125)

Rules

1. Ducks will be sold at $5 each or 5/$20.  (Purchaser must be 18 years of age or older.) Odds of winning depends on number of ducks sold.
2. Ducks will be launched into the creek running through Skelly's Farm Market, LLC around 3:30pm on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Tickets may be purchased on-site until 3:00 pm on race day, while supplies last.
3. Every duck sold will be automatically entered in the race.  All ducks remain the property of the Janesville Optimist Clubs.
4. To purchase a duck(s), all entrants must complete a registration form. 
5. Once the ducks are launched, they are on their own.  No attempt to free or interfere with any duck will be permitted from anyone except for race organizers and staff. Race organizers and staff reserve the right to assist slow ducks after the main pack has passed. This includes ducks eligible for the Lame Duck prize.
6. Winners need not be present to win.  Winners will be notified by telephone, registered mail or in the media.
7. All prizes will be awarded as stated. No substitutions will be awarded.
8. Any and all taxes and similar fees are the sole responsibility of the winner. Individual duck adoption entries are not tax deductible.
9. If any winner does not come forward to claim the prize won within 30 days of the race, that winner's prize is forfeited and the judges will declare another winner for the prize so forfeited.
10. The decision and interpretation of rules by the Judges will be final.
11. All net proceeds will be given to the Janesville Optimist Clubs to be used at Optimist Park.
12. In the event the race cannot take place, a lottery drawing will occur at the same time and location.
13. By purchasing a duck(s), the entrant releases the Janesville Optimist Club and Skelly's Farm Market and relating entities including but not limited to club members from any and all liability with respect to the race and prizes.
